Affirmations Book One way to transform yourself is by using an affirmations book. An affirmation is a statement of intent about what you want to be true. There are a few good affirmations books out there, and I have read a book or two about them. However, what almost every affirmations book I have read gives advice that is pretty much wrong, and I will explain why. If you want the best affirmations book possible, you want one that will actually help you change.
Most books suggest writing affirmations like the following: "I am fitting into my new bikini," and "I am rich." They sound good, because they are getting you all psyched up about bikini season and the money you want. Yes, you may start to see yourself wearing that bikini and living in that nice house you pass on the way to work. However, guess, what? That affirmations book forgot to mention that your subconscious mind knows better. That little automatic voice in your head is secretly and not-so-secretly telling you that you are NOT fitting into your new bikini, because you are 50 pounds overweight, and that you are NOT rich, because you are working as a greeter at Wal-Mart. These affirmations may have some effect on your brain wiring, but the effect will be muted. |
